Is there any advantage to me in staying on the register when I am not practising?

Yes. Remaining on non-practising section of the register will enable you to continue to call yourself a pharmacist and receive the Pharmacy Council Newsletter and other communications.

If you remove your name from the register of pharmacists in New Zealand, and subsequently wish to be reinstated, you will need to apply for registration and pay a re-instatement fee as well as an Annual Practising Fee if applying for reinstatement to the practising register (see fees).

Is there any advantage to me in staying on the register when I am practising in Australia?

Yes, you can remain on the non-practising register. If you intend returning to New Zealand you will be able to transfer back to the practising register without any extra requirements providing you have practised in New Zealand within the 3 years immediately preceding your application. If you have not practised in New Zealand for longer than 3 years you can transfer back to the practising register but will need to undertake 1 month's supervised practice and an interview.

If you are no longer registered in New Zealand but have been registered and are practising in Australia you can be reinstated to the New Zealand Register through Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition.

Remaining on the Register of Pharmacists in New Zealand while you are overseas will enable you to receive the Pharmacy Council Newsletter and other communications.

Is there any advantage to me in staying on the register when I am practising in the UK or Ireland?

Yes, definitely . You can remain on the non-practising register. If you intend returning to New Zealand you will be able to transfer back to the practising register without any extra requirements providing you have practised in New Zealand within the 3 years immediately preceding your application. If you have been practising in the UK but have not practised in New Zealand for longer than 3 years you can transfer back to the practising register when you return but will need to undertake 1 month supervised practice and an interview.
